A Brief History of our Brief History: June 2001

Jim Fear: Robb - drums/backing vocals, Chris - basses, Jamie - guitars/vocals

On 9th March 2001, Jim Fear was born to three happy, adoring parents - Chris, Jamie and Robb. Brothers Robb and Jamie, now freed from the shackles of their previous unruly offspring [ element ], welcomed the opportunity to make the music they had always wanted to make.

And so little Jim grew quickly and formed its own identity and possibly its own genre. Weaned on a healthy diet of drum and bass, hardcore, emo and metal, Jim stood out from the other bands in the playground. Others may have whispered of Jim being ‘different’ but this pleased Jim Fear.

Described as sounding ‘like Dillinger Escape Plan beating up Mogwai with Far as referee and Roni Size cheerleading’ by Jamie, Jim Fear practised hard to build an intense stage performance to back this up. At just 14 weeks old Jim Fear made its debut performance, opening for up and coming bands Kaned & Unable and Silva, to a packed Moles Club in Bath.

Managing to secure a small amount of studio time, Jim Fear recorded itself at Hotbath Studios, Bath. The resulting product, although rough around the edges, displays Jim Fear’s sound at this early stage of development.
